Dark War: Survival Guide

The Dark War: Survival Guide

How the systems that decide your power actually work — hives, red gear, exclusive weapons, industrial buildings and migration — plus a free calculator for each. No signup required.

Where your power actually comes from

Dark War: Survival hides most of its real decisions behind menus that never show you the total bill. How many Power Cores does a maxed helmet cost? How many fragments until Red Star? Which building unlocks the next Watch Tower tier? The game answers one step at a time, which makes long-term planning almost impossible.

This guide publishes the full numbers for each system and pairs every one with a free calculator, so you can plan a month ahead instead of a stage ahead. Everything here is built and maintained by players and is free for any player, in any alliance, in any state.

Core systems, one by one

Hives and alliance layout

Your hive is the single biggest defensive decision an alliance makes. Members packed tightly around the capital reinforce each other in seconds; a scattered alliance loses fights it should win because help arrives after the rally lands.

Strong fighters go in the first ring around the capital, farms and low-power accounts sit on the outside, and clear teleport lanes let new members actually join. Size the layout to the players who log in daily, not to your total member count.

Red gear promotion

Red gear covers the helmet, gun, jacket and boots, and it is where most long-term resources go. Each piece climbs six Promotion Levels, and every level is four identical stages followed by one breakthrough.

Only the breakthrough consumes DX Blueprints, and only the breakthrough gives the real power spike — which is why pushing one piece to a breakthrough beats spreading stages across all four. Maxing a single piece costs 2,350 Power Cores, 705,000 Boost Ore and 150 DX Blueprints.

Exclusive Weapons

An Exclusive Weapon runs through five Gold Stars, a breakthrough, then five Red Stars, all paid for with Universal Exclusive Weapon Fragments. Gold Star 5 Stage 5 is a genuine resting point — the weapon only becomes Red once you spend the separate breakthrough.

The Red half of the track dwarfs the Gold half. A weapon taken all the way to Max Red Star costs 3,905 fragments, and because fragments are a shared currency, splitting them across weapons stalls all of them.

Chips and Resonance

The Modding Workshop gives each troop type four chips — Assault, Vanguard, Suppression and Gravity — levelled with copies of themselves through Star Rise checkpoints, from 1★ up to Red 5.

Resonance is not bought: it mirrors the lowest star in your set and only activates once all four chips are unlocked. One chip from locked to Red 5 costs 501 copies, so a full set is 2,004 — over 1.6 million Advanced Chip Material.

Industrial Buildings

Past the normal level cap, buildings move onto the Industrial track: Industry tiers split into five notches each, bought with Precision Parts. The Watch Tower gates everything — no other Industrial Building may exceed its Industry level.

Every Watch Tower tier also needs the Alliance Hall at a matching level plus one troop camp, rotating between Fighter, Shooter and Rider. Planning that chain before you spend is the difference between a smooth climb and a stalled base.

APC Modding Workshop

Under Development

The APC Modding Workshop upgrades six vehicle components — Turret, Weapon Module, Front Ram, Armour Plate, Hull and Wheels — each with its own material cost curve. The calculator totals every alloy, polymer and blueprint needed from your current levels to your targets.

Only verified in-game values are used; missing tiers stay locked rather than guessed, so the numbers match what you will actually spend.

Migration Center

The Migration Center is a public recruiting board for alliances and players looking for a new state. Create a profile, browse alliance listings, bookmark the best fits and apply directly — no separate inquiry needed.

Alliances list open slots, bracket tiers and contact details; players show power, tier, activity and industry. Everyone reviews in one place.

How to plan a hive layout in Dark War: Survival

A good hive is not just a cluster of shelters — it is a defensive shape. In Dark War: Survival, the tighter your alliance sits around its capital, the faster reinforcements arrive and the less time an attacker has between the rally landing and your help reaching the target.

Start from the centre. Drop the capital or Alliance Hall first, then place your highest-power fighters in the first ring around it. Those accounts are the ones that can survive being hit first, and they shorten the reinforcement distance to everyone behind them.

Push farms outward. Low-power and farm accounts belong on the outer edge where a loss costs the alliance least. Do not scatter them between main accounts — gaps in the core are exactly where an enemy will teleport in.

Leave landing lanes. Keep a clear path into the hive so new members can teleport in without hunting for a free tile. A layout nobody can actually join is a layout that stays half-empty.

Size it to your active roster. Build for the members who log in, not the total member count. Empty slots inside a hive are an invitation.

The planner above lets you drag shelters onto the grid, assign real member names, apply building skins, co-edit with officers in real time, export the result as a PNG for your chat channel, and publish it to the community gallery for other alliances to copy.

Hive planning questions players actually ask

What is a hive in Dark War: Survival?
A hive is a tight formation of alliance shelters built around the Alliance Hall or a capital building. Packing members into a hive shortens rally and reinforcement travel time, keeps healing and shielding in range, and makes an alliance far harder to pick apart during World Wars.
How do I plan a hive layout?
Place the capital or Alliance Hall first, then ring the strongest fighters immediately around it so they absorb the first hits. Farm accounts and lower-power members go on the outer edge. Leave clear lanes so members can teleport in without landing on top of a resource tile.
How many shelters should a hive hold?
Match it to your active roster rather than your total member count. A layout with more slots than active players leaves gaps that opponents can teleport into, which is worse than a smaller, fully occupied hive.
Can I share a hive layout with my alliance?
Yes. Save a layout and share the link, or publish it to the community gallery so any alliance can view it. Published layouts can also be exported as a PNG image to drop straight into a chat channel.
Does the Hive Planner work for other games?
It was built for Dark War: Survival, but the grid, shelter and roster model is generic enough that players of similar strategy titles use it as a general hive planner too.
Is the Hive Planner free?
Yes, it is free and needs no sign-in to start planning. Creating an account only adds saved layouts, live co-editing and publishing to the community gallery.
